Hoses and Water Pumping
When buying a hose, you need to decide on three things: what diameter (D-25, C-52, B-75), what coupling, and what pressure rating. Our hoses are multi-layered, with a rubber inner lining, machine-bound aluminium Storz coupling, and are certified as fire hoses.
Important: the discharge side of the pump requires a flat or self-supporting delivery hose, while the suction side requires only a suction hose, as it does not collapse under vacuum.
Which size are you looking for?
Sizes: which one is for what?
D-25 (1 inch) – lightweight design, for smaller pumps, irrigation, garden and agricultural use, also suitable as a quick-intervention hose.
C-52 (2 inch) – the most common firefighting size. For wall hydrants, intervention firefighting, water relay and agricultural use.
B-75 (3 inch) – high-capacity delivery hose, for supply from hydrants, larger pumps, industrial tasks.
A-102 (4 inch), A-110 (4.5 inch), A-150 (6 inch) – large-diameter hoses for transporting significant volumes of water: fire service water supply, industrial water relay, flood protection, high-capacity pumps.
Suction, rigid-wall hoses – for use exclusively on the suction side of the pump. Thanks to the spiral reinforcement, they do not collapse under vacuum, so they work even where a flat delivery hose would flatten.
Coupled, custom-length flat hoses – if the standard 20 metres doesn't suit the task, we can also make the hose in the required length, fitted with Storz couplings.
Lengths and cutting to size
Assembled hoses are available in 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60 and 100 metre versions. In addition, several sizes can also be ordered cut to length by the metre, without couplings: this is worthwhile if you have your own couplings, or if you need a non-standard length.
When choosing the length, also factor in pressure loss: with a hose much longer than necessary, the end-point pressure drops, especially at smaller diameters.
Hose types: it matters what you buy
- Maxfire KOR – extra-lightweight design with a silicone lining, 16 bar working pressure. Good where the hose needs to be moved frequently.
- Swiss Premium 3F – EPDM lining, 16/60 bar. The higher test pressure and the EPDM provide durability and better chemical resistance.
- Alfa 52 – premium hose, 15 bar.
- Oil- and chemical-resistant version – for industrial environments where the hose may come into contact with oil, fuel or chemicals.
- Abrasion-resistant, coated version – for hoses dragged over rough, coarse surfaces, on construction sites or industrial areas.
- Maxfire RT, machine-bound – 15/45 bar, with aluminium Storz couplings, machine-bound.
Pressure marking
The two numbers indicate the working pressure and the burst pressure, for example 15/45 or 16/60 bar. The working pressure is the value at which the hose can be used continuously, while the burst pressure indicates the value at which the hose bursts during testing. For irrigation, a lower pressure rating is sufficient, but for firefighting and industrial use, don't go below what's required.
Which hose is for what?
- For wall hydrants: C-52, flat hose, typically 20 meters. The cabinet type determines which design is needed.
- For irrigation, water pumping: D-25 or C-52, matched to the pump's connector size. Suction hose for the suction side, flat or form-stable delivery hose for the pressure side.
- Flooded basement, spill containment: diameter matched to the pump's performance, and a delivery hose long enough to carry the water to a safe location.
- Transporting large volumes of water: B-75 or A-size, depending on distance and pump capacity.
- For agricultural machinery, harvesting: short, quick-to-handle hose in a durable design.
Maintenance and pressure testing
The hoses of wall hydrants must be inspected regularly, and periodic pressure testing must also be carried out on them. We also offer this service; you can find the prices on our maintenance page. The most important task after use: always dry the hose completely before rolling it up, because a hose stored wet will deteriorate from the inside.
Frequently asked questions
What do the C, B and A markings mean?
The standard diameter markings for fire hoses are: D-25 (25 mm, 1 inch), C-52 (52 mm, 2 inch), B-75 (75 mm, 3 inch), A-102 (4 inch), A-110 (4.5 inch), A-150 (6 inch). The number refers to the internal diameter in millimeters.
Why isn't a delivery hose suitable for the suction side?
Because a vacuum forms on the suction side of the pump, which causes the delivery hose to collapse and block the path for the water. A spiral-reinforced, rigid-walled suction hose is needed for the suction side.
Can it be ordered in non-standard lengths?
Yes. The hose can be ordered cut to length in several sizes, and we can also make it in custom lengths with Storz couplings fitted. Let us know what length and what coupling you need.
What is the difference between a silicone and an EPDM lining?
A hose made with a silicone lining is generally lighter, making it easier to move. The EPDM lining is more durable, withstanding chemicals and aging better. If you move it a lot, the lightweight design is better; if you use it under demanding, heavy-duty conditions long-term, EPDM is the better choice.
Is it available without a Storz coupling?
Yes, the hose can also be ordered on its own, cut to length. You can find the couplings in the fittings category. If you're unsure, send us a photo of your existing system and we'll tell you which one you need.
