Hydrant Systems and Cabinets
There are two types of hydrant systems: the indoor wall hydrant, used by building occupants to tackle an incipient fire, and the outdoor, network-connected above-ground and underground hydrant, used by the fire brigade for intervention.
The wall hydrant cabinet contains the valve hydrant, the hose, the nozzle and the hose holder. Some cabinets are made with a flat hose, others with a self-supporting hose on a hose reel.

What to Consider When Choosing a Cabinet
- Hose type: the semi-rigid hose can be stored wound on a hose reel and does not need to be fully unwound for use. The flat hose takes up less space and is the standard solution in traditional cabinets with hose racks.
- Size: the external dimensions and installation depth of the cabinet determine whether it can be recessed into the wall or surface-mounted. When replacing, always measure the existing opening.
- Design: lockable door, door with key box or glazed door, painted or galvanized steel, with enhanced corrosion protection for outdoor use.
Inspection and Maintenance
Wall hydrants must be inspected at regular intervals, which includes measuring the water flow rate and discharge pressure, while hoses require periodic pressure testing. These are carried out by a specialist company, and the results must be documented. We also offer these measurements and maintenance services — prices can be found on our maintenance page. Logbooks for documentation purposes can be found under Fire Safety Operation Logbooks.
Parts and Hose Replacement
You don't always need to buy a new cabinet. If the hose is worn, the hydrant valve leaks, or the seal has hardened, the faulty part can be replaced separately. Replacement hoses can be found under Hoses and Water Pumping, while hydrant valves, nozzles, couplings, caps and seals are available under Fittings. If you're not sure which part fits your existing cabinet, send us a photo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should the cabinet have a flat or semi-rigid hose?
The semi-rigid hose can be deployed faster, as it does not need to be fully unwound. The flat hose takes up less space. When replacing, choose the type that matches the holder already installed in the cabinet.
Can only the hose be replaced in an existing cabinet?
Yes, this is the most common case. For replacement, you need to know the hose diameter, length and coupling size.
How often should a wall hydrant be inspected?
At regular intervals, together with measurements, and the results must be documented. For the specific frequency and prices, please check our maintenance page.
Should the cabinet be recessed or surface-mounted?
For new construction, a recessed cabinet is usually the more elegant solution, while for retrofitting, surface-mounted is often the only option. When replacing, measure the existing opening before ordering.
